Peter Blake:Peter Blake is a English artist that specialises in painting and print making. he is a well known artist within the period of the "swinging London" for his reflection of leading culture stars at the time.
Peter Blake's Traditional methods of art are popular for their collage appearance- his main subject focused on culture; this included iconic celebrities, symbols and brands and characters from a particular year. I like the way he captures the energy in his imagery. I have been inspired by the work of Peter Blake in relation to my decades assignment. I like the way he combines different types of imagery together; I like the contrast in realism between the photgraphs and cartoons I feel that this creates a lively atmosphere. I have been influenced by his use of iconic figures surrounded by culture and the way he presents his work. |
I like the symbolism he uses in his work to convey a meaning. I also like the use of colours- i feel it has a bold appearance.

Overall, I have been influenced by Peter Blake's work containing items from culture and society- I like the way that he uses collage to tell a narrative and creates a atmosphere in his work by using visual language. He has inspired me to look into the deeper message of CD imagery and iconic figures between the early 1950s to late 1980s.
I particularly like the way he uses non realistic imagery in the form of shapes and cartoons alongside photographs and realistic portraits as it creates a surreal effect. |
My Own Imagery:
I was influenced by Peter Blake during my own experimentation using collage to show identity and rebellion from youth subculture. To do this, I used magazine cut-outs to laterally create rebellion in the image by reforming the face; I mainly focused upon creating angry and confused expressions. By doing this I feel I have achieved a darker unnerving image. I used iconic figures that influenced youth subculture to laterally present social unrest that affected youth groups over the 40 year period.
I then developed my imagery using mixed media by showing unrest in the technique of ripping and rearranging figures- I did this by photocopying collages and illustrations and as a result interpreted this as clashing society and culture against each other to show unrest. I like the identity produced against social standards form teenage point of view.
